BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University assistant softball coach Chan Walker has been selected to attend the highly selective NCAA Women Coaches Academy (WCA), held Dec. 7-10 in Denver, Colo.
The WCA is a 4-day educational training seminar open to women coaches at the Division I, II or III levels, and offers non-sport-specific program management strategies, with a special focus on philosophy development in addition to building skills in a number of various areas that they will use in their coaching careers.
Walker was a member of the inaugural FAU softball team and is still among the program's all-time leaders in career batting average and on-base percentage and is co-holder of the school record for career stolen base percentage (.955). Walker has been a part of the program for 17 of its 21 seasons, as either player or coach.
"I'm honored to have been selected for the NCAA's Women Coaches Academy," said Walker. "I look forward to the opportunity to continue my professional development with so many talented coaches from around the country."
As an assistant coach, Walker has helped the Owls to six conference titles and six NCAA tournament appearances, including a Regional appearance in 2015, its first since 2006. The Owls are currently in their fall scrimmage schedule and the 2016 schedule will be released later this fall.
