BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University women's basketball team will look to make an early impact in the Conference USA standings as the Owls host conference foes UAB and Middle Tennessee on Jan. 8 and Jan. 10, respectively.
FAU (7-5, 1-0 C-USA) earned a 79-63 victory at FIU on Jan. 4 to open the conference portion of its season, its second year in C-USA. The Owls lead the league in free throw shooting, assist-to-turnover ratio and fewest turnovers per game. FAU also ranks second in C-USA in scoring offense with an average of 74.4 points per game.
UAB (6-6, 0-1 C-USA) suffered a 76-68 loss against Middle Tennessee last weekend, but holds a 3-0 record against the Owls all-time. The Blazers won a thriller last season in Boca Raton by a margin of 94-91 in overtime. The Owls missed a free throw with two seconds left in regulation that sent the game to overtime.
Tipoff against the Blazers is slated for 7 p.m. on Thursday at FAU Arena.
Defending champion and 2014-15 favorite Middle Tennessee (7-4, 1-0 C-USA) has won three in a row and will take on FIU in Miami on Thursday before facing the Owls on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Blue Raiders are 3-3 on the road this season with losses at Arizona State, Kentucky and South Dakota State. Last season, the Owls made 12 three-pointers in an 83-77 home loss to MT. Then-freshman Kat Wright buried three three-pointers en route to 16 points in that game.
