Dec. 8, 2014

BOCA RATON, Fla. -

Florida Atlantic University women's basketball player Ali Gorrell and men's basketball player Justin Massey have been chosen as FAU Players of the Week after helping lead their teams to victories last week.

On Sunday against Webber International, Gorrell lead the Owls to their third highest-scoring game in school history, 111-76, with 25 points in only 25 minutes. The junior also led the team with seven rebounds and committed only one turnover. She shot 65 percent from the field and 80 percent from inside the arc and was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Gorrell has broken her previous career high 16 points five times in her first seven games at FAU.

Massey was a key contributor in the Owls' 72-63 win over East Carolina last week. The freshman walk-on from Cooper City tied his career high with 17 points and five rebounds, while setting career highs in three-pointers made (five), assists (five), and minutes played (39). For the season, Massey is averaging 10.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, having started all six of FAU's games so far and averaging just under 30 minutes per contest.

Both teams are on the road this week with the men traveling to Orlando to face UCF on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. The women will head to Fort Collins, Colo. to take on Colorado State on Sunday, Dec. 14 at 2 p.m.
