Nov. 14, 2014

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Florida Atlantic University women's basketball head coach Kellie Lewis-Jay announced the signing of California All-State standout Ra'Kyra Gabriel on Friday.

"We are very excited to announce the signing of Ra'Kyra Gabriel," Lewis-Jay said. "Ra'Kyra is a great player who will give us a great presence in the paint. She can score with her back to the basket and she rebounds the ball well and can finish with contact. What makes Ra'Kyra really special is she can do all these things and can shoot the three with great accuracy."

Gabriel, a 6-1 forward/center averaged 14.6 points and 9.4 rebounds last season to complement her 3.7 blocks per game at Brookside Christian High School in Stockton, Calif. Gabriel led her squad to a 28-5 record, giving the Knights the top seed in the Division V playoffs.

She was named Second Team All-State in both her freshman and sophomore years and First Team All-State last season. Gabriel ranked in the state's Top-10 as a freshman and Top-20 as a sophomore.

"In three years of high school basketball, Ra'Kyra has a combined record of 84-14," Lewis-Jay added. "She knows how to win! I expect Ra'Kyra to come step on the court as a freshman and make an immediate impact in our program."
