SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Despite picking up a point in the Conference USA standings, the Florida Atlantic University women's soccer team saw its postseason hopes dashed with a 1-1 draw at UTSA on Sunday.
UTSA (5-10-2, 1-7-1 C-USA) was tenacious early, taking eight shots within the first 23 minutes of the match. The Roadrunners would find the back of the net on the eighth attempt as Charlotte Husoe buried a free kick from 25 yards out to take an early lead.
The Owls (7-8-4, 2-4-3 C-USA) took 16 shots before freshman Asta Arnadottir scored her second career goal in the 87th minute on an assist by Dani Dangremond. FAU's Taylor Townsend would take another shot in the 88th minute, but it was saved to send the Owls to their ninth overtime match of 2014.
FAU took four shots in the overtime periods, and placed two on goal, but UTSA's Katherine Tesno made her 10th and 11th saves of the game to keep the Owls at bay.
FAU owns nine points in the C-USA standings, but cannot reach the 13 points that would put them into tournament consideration.
The Owls will travel to Ruston, La. to face Louisiana Tech for their final match of 2014 on Thursday, Oct. 30. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. ET.
