Florida Atlantic University volleyball's Kristina Rankovic and football's Lucky Whitehead have been recognized as FAU Players of the Week.
Rankovic led the FAU offense over the weekend after posting 23 kills (3.83 per set) in FAU's two conference wins against Southern Miss and Middle Tennessee. The junior had just six errors in 61 swings, as she hit .279 for the week. The Owls are off to their best start since 2005 with an overall record of 15-6 and 6-2 in C-USA.
In the Owls' 45-38 victory over Western Kentucky on Saturday, Whitehead had a team leading eight catches for 125 yards, two scores, 94 yards on five kick returns, and a team leading 217 all-purpose yards. The speedy slot receiver used his feet to complete a 61-yard score and give the Owls the game winning touchdown. For Whitehead, it was his first game with multiple TDs (2), the longest reception of 2014 (61 yards), and his effort improved FAU to 3-0 at home and 3-4 on the season.
Volleyball will face two conference opponents this weekend, first traveling to Denton, Texas on Friday, Oct. 24 to play North Texas at 8 p.m. and then heading to Bowling Green, Ky. to play Western Kentucky at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 26. Football will compete against C-USA rival Marshall at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 in Huntington, W. Va.
