Florida Atlantic University's football team returned to the practice field and continued the acclimation period towards full pads with its Friday workout.
The day began with field goal work and individual work for the linemen. The Owls opened up 7-on-7 with newcomer Jenson Stoshak bringing in the big pass to open the first team session. With players wrapping up summer class finals, reps were spread among three quarterbacks, allowing junior college transfer Melvin German III more time in the new system. German took advantage hitting Robert Lohnes in stride and then Travis Jones coming out of the backfield. Redshirt sophomore Stephen Curtis had the highlight toss of the day going over the top to a leaping and heavily-covered Byron Hankerson. German returned to find sophomore Hakeeme Ishmar. The second team session began with senior linebacker David Hinds recovering a fumble. Not to be outdone, the running game saw newcomer Martese Jackson break through the line for a big gain and German mounted a running attack, breaking tackles.
The Owls will return to the practice field 10 a.m. Saturday. Season and single game tickets are on sale and can be purchased through Ticketmaster or by calling 1-866-FAU-Owls. FAU will open the 2012 campaign, Friday, August 31 in its new on-campus stadium versus Wagner College. Practices are closed to the general public and media.
