MUSCLE SHOALS, AL - An even-par round keeps Pablo Gerboles-Parrilla near the very top of the individual leaderboard, and the FAU Owls men's golf team improved 16 strokes as a squad during day two of the Sun Belt Conference Championships.
As he was after the first round, Gerboles-Parrilla is just two strokes behind the leader, North Texas' Ty Spinella, but the FAU freshman is now tied for third place after being in second place after day one. His Tuesday round of 72 included seven birdies, and gives him a two-day total of 1-over-par 145. Spinella is 1-under (143), while Chun-Ji Kim of Denver shot a 69 to move to even par overall (144). Like Gerboles-Parrilla, Brett Patterson of Middle Tennessee also has a 145.
The Owls used two 10-stroke improvements and an 8-stroke upgrade to shoot 300 Tuesday, after a 316 on Monday. They actually dropped a slot, to eighth place amongst teams, four strokes behind Denver (612) and five behind Troy (611). First round co-leader North Texas shot a 282 in round two to create a 7-stroke cushion between them and the other Monday co-leader, Middle Tennessee State.
Improving in round two were Clinton Wilhelm, who shot a 1-over 73, 10 shots better than his Monday round. Michael Baskovich did the same with an 80 on Tuesday, while Justin Thompson went from an 83 to a 75.
Bradford Kidd (157) falls between Wilhelm (156) and Thompson (158) on the Owls' leaderboard. Baskovich is at 170.
