Women's Tennis Drops Hard Fought 4-3 Decision to Middle Tennessee

Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University women's tennis team dropped a hard fought 4-3 match to Sun Belt Conference opponent Middle Tennessee State University on Saturday afternoon at Patch Reef Park in Boca Raton. The loss snapped the Owls' six-match winning streak.

FAU won the doubles point by getting victories from the tandem of junior Marlene Ryan and freshman Natalia Tomaszewicz, by winning a 7-3 tiebreaker, and the duo of senior Justine Humair and freshman Taylor Briggs, with an 8-3 victory.

However, the visitors seized momentum in singles by winning the first set in four the six matches.

Owls' freshman Catalina Ene came back to win a three-set decision at No. 6 singles, coming out on top in the deciding third set by a 6-4 score. Meanwhile, Ryan accounted for the team's other point with a three-set victory (4-6, 6-4, 6-1) at No. 2 singles. Meanwhile, junior Natasha Phillips lost a three-set match at No. 5 singles, and Humair dropped the third set 6-2 at No. 1 singles.

FAU stands 6-2 on the season and returns to the court on Wednesday, March 7, against Xavier University at Patch Reef Park, 2000 West Yamato Road in Boca Raton.
