Cross Country Gains Experience at First Meet of Year

BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country teams had their first meet of the year. The team travelled to Fort Meyers, FL to participate in the Florida Gulf Coast University Cross Country Invitational. The team was able to bring some of their new incoming and less experienced runners to the meet to help give them some more collegiate running experience.

For the women there were nine runners who participated in the meet. Freshman Tara Cripe set the pace for the women coming in first for FAU and 12th overall, and Chelsea Connor was able to finish second for FAU. Not far behind them were freshman Paige Lawton and junior Vanessa Penatescoming in at 18th and 19th overall for the Owls in the women's 5K run.

Junior Eric Kessler was able to lead the FAU men with a time of 21:49.20 in the 4 mile run. Kessler came in 16th place overall with Michael Neel coming in closely behind him with a time of 22:00.80. Six more men rounded out the scoring for the Owls with Neil Coffman placing 21st overall (22:18.30) and Michael Spegalplaced 24th with a time of 22:44.60 for FAU.

The next meet for the FAU cross country teams will be at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Fl. The meet will be held next Friday, September 9.
