BOCA RATON, FL - CollegeSwimming.com announced on Monday the Mid-Major All-Americans. There were 27 swimmers named to the first team and 279 named as a part of the Honorable Mention list. Florida Atlantic University had four swimmers make the honorable mention list, Eszter Bucz, Adam Corbin, Mikolaj Czarnecki and Csaba Pek. Honorable mention selections go to swimmers who entered with NCAA `B' standards but were not selected for the 2011 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship.
Sophomore, Eszter Bucz was one of 161 female swimmers awarded the Mid-Major All-American Honorable Mention honors. The Budapest, Hungary native qualified for the NCAA Championships in three events this past February. Bucz won the 400-yard individual medley by a two-second margin with a time of 4:18.42 at the Sun Belt Conference Championship. Bucz also placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:14.84) and in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.61) at the conference meet, both of which were provisionally qualifying times for the NCAA Championships.
For the men, senior Adam Corbin, junior Mikolaj Czarnecki and junior Csaba Pek all received the Mid-Major All-American Honorable Mention honors. All three helped FAU to a third place finish at the Sun Belt Conference Championships where Czarnecki posted two school records individually in the 100-yard butterfly (48.61 seconds) and the 200-yard butterfly race (1:45.90) which provisionally qualified him for the NCAA championships. He also participated in the 400 and 800-yard freestyle relays that also set new school records. Corbin also had a NCAA qualifying time of 1:37.95 for a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle race and was also a part of both the school record setting relays that posted NCAA qualifying times. Pek was also a part of the 800-yard freestyle relay.
All four swimmers have been previously recognized by the Sun Belt Conference winning Athlete of the Week honors at least once in the past season. Mikolaj Czarnecki, Csaba Pek and Eszter Bucz will all be returning next year to compete in the pool for the Owls.
