BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic track team travelled to Philadelphia, PA competing in the Penn Relays Thursday through Saturday. The team ran in three events; the 400 meter hurdles, the women's 10K and the women's sprint medley relay. The team left the prestigious meet with two qualifying times for the NCAA meet.
On Thursday, Danielle Aromashodu and Lauren Walton both competed in the 400m hurdles, which was the first event of the meet. Walton ran the race in a time of 1:03.48 while Aromashodu got a time of 59.15. Both of these times were new personal bests for both women. Aromashodu's time also broke the FAU school record in the women's 400m hurdles and qualified her for the NCAA meet.
Later Thursday evening, Rebecca Hallam ran in the women's 10K placing in 17th place overall in the race with a time of 35.53.01. Hallam's time also broke the FAU school record in the women's 10K and qualified her for the NCAA meet as well.
Aromashodu, Walton, Valerie Dixon and Caitlin Jackson all ran together in the sprint medley on Friday rounding out the events for the Owls. The relay team finished 28th overall and fifth in their section with a time of 4:09.06.
"We had a good weekend," said head track and field coach Alex Smolka, "Out of three events we had two school records, it was a successful weekend."
The Owls will continue to compete on Thursday when they bring a small group of runners to a meet at UCF, after that FAU will look prepare for the Sun Belt Conference meet in two weeks.
