Cross Country Team Honored for Academic Achievements

BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University Cross Country team gained Division I All-Academic honors, while Frederike Feil was also named individually to the All-Academic Cross Country Team by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

For a team to by eligible for the academic award they must compete at the regional championship and have at least a 3.0 collective grade point average. The Owls cumulated a team grade point average of 3.212 and finished 13th in the NCAA Regional meet. Their finish tied for the best cross country team finish in school history, and this also marks the first time a FAU cross country team has received this academic honor.

FAU runner Friederike Feil has individually been named to the All-Academic Team after receiving the honors two other times in 2008 and 2009, both after qualifying for regionals in the steeplechase. In order for an individual to qualify for the honors they must finish in the top 25 at the regional championship, make the all-regional team and have a grade point average of 3.25. Feil took 18th place at the cross country NCAA Regional meet in the women's 6K with a school record time of 20:34.44, which is the best ever individual finish for an FAU runner at Regionals
