Men's Golf Stands at Ninth Place after Second Round

BOCA RATON, FL- The Florida Atlantic University men's golf team improved their team score by four stokes from the first round (298) of play to the second round to end the first day of the UCF Invitational at Rio Pinar Country Club tied for ninth place. The team has a combined score of 592 after carding a 294 in the second round of the event. Heading the invitational is UCF with a 19-under par score of 557, a 13 stroke difference over Liberty University who is in second.

The Owls have all played consistently throughout both rounds of the first day. Not one of the five golfers has shot above a 77 for either of the rounds. Michael Baskovich (76, 74) leads Kelly McHugh (74, 77 -151), Clinton Wilhelm (77, 74 -151) and Casey Matthews (75, 76 -151) by one stroke with a two round total of 150.

Justin Thompson finds himself setting the pace for the Owls shooting a composite score of 143 (73, 70). Thompson is leading FAU and has jumped from being in 20th place individually after the first round, to being in 12th place going into the third round. He sits one stroke under par after the two rounds.

The Owls will look to carryover their consistent play of strong scores in the 70s to the final round of the par 72 Rio Pinar Invitational on Tuesday morning.
