Boca Raton, Fla. - A red-hot start to the spring season has made Florida Atlantic University senior shortstop Nick DelGuidice stand out among his peers as the Sun Belt Conference's Baseball Player of the Week, announced Monday by the conference office. This marks the second time he has been honored by the league during his collegiate career.
DelGuidice had nine hits in his 12 at-bats and drove in eight runs as the Owls swept a three-game weekend series from Hofstra University - the team's first 3-0 start since the 2007 season.
The Miami native went 5-for-5 at the plate with five RBIs in last Friday's 12-4 season-opening victory. He connected on a two-run home run as part of a five-run eighth inning. DelGuidice tallied at least one base hit and RBI in each game of the series, recorded a 1.250 slugging percentage and reached base in nearly 70 percent of his plate appearances. That helped FAU outscore Hofstra 30-13 in the series.
DelGuidice earned National Player of the Week recognition last season following a two-home run, nine-RBI performance against Boston College. The nine RBIs is an FAU single game school record.
Florida Atlantic will battle No. 1-ranked University of Florida on Tuesday, February 22, starting at 6:30 p.m., at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter. Tickets for the game range from $5 to $17, with an additional $20 package available for fans wishing to participate in a preseason all-you-can-eat buffet dinner, beginning at 4:30 p.m., in a special section of the stadium. Season and individual tickets are on sale by calling the FAU Ticket Office at 1-888-FAU-OWLS.
