Softball Drops Saturday's Game One

BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University's softball team dropped its first game 6-1 to the University of Massachusetts 6-1, Saturday. The loss drops the Owls to 2-5 on the season.

FAU threatened with the bases loaded in the bottom of the third but were held scoreless and spotted UMass another run in the top half of the fourth. FAU pulled within one in the bottom half of the fourth manufacturing a run.

FAU's Jordan Stovall drew a lead-off walk, moved to second via a wild pitch and to third on a single to center. Carly Speerin then drove in the Owls lone run of the game on a sacrifice fly to right.

The game remained at 2-1 through the next two innings before UMass broke the game open with four runs in the top of the seventh.

The Owls returned to the field thirty minutes later to close out the night and will play one on Sunday with game times being announced following Saturday's nightcap.
