BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team fell to FIU in straight sets (25-22, 25-23, 25-17) on Friday night. Freshman setter Madison Lang had 22 assists, five digs and four blocks on the night.
The first set was a back and forth affair that featured eight ties and three lead changes in the early going of the set. With the score tied at 11, FIU took seven of the next 11 points to take a 18-15 lead. The Owls (3-14, 0-5 Sun Belt) pulled to within one on several occasions but were unable to ever tie the set, falling 25-22.
FIU (11-5, 3-2) seized control early in the second set, building an early 12-5 lead. FAU rallied to even the score at 17, leading to the two teams exchanging the next several points. The set was tied at 23, when a Panther kill and Owl attack error gave FIU a 25-23 win in the set and a two sets to none advantage.
Set number three began the same way the third set did, with the Panthers grabbing early lead. The Owls never could make up the margin and eventually lost 25-17.
