Boca Raton, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's swimming and diving teams continue being recognized by the Sun Belt Conference as Mikolaj Czarnecki and Maegan Butler have been presented with the league's weekly male swimmer and female diver awards. The honors were announced by the league office earlier this week.
The award marks the first time that Czarnecki has been recognized this season, while Butler was honored for the second time.
Czarnecki won four races and posted nine top-five performances during three recent meets, helping FAU's men's team to be rated seventh in the Avidasports Performance poll. The junior, from Lublin, Poland, led wire-to-wire to earn a one-second victory in the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.05) in the Owls first 2011 meet. Later in the same meet, he established a season-best time (50.76 seconds) in a fourth-place performance in the 100-yard butterfly. Czarnecki helped the Owls post two dual-meet victories in the FAU Invitational on December 18, 2010 by winning three events and swimming a leg of the second-place 200-yard medley relay. He won the 100- and 200-yard butterfly races along with the 200-yard freestyle event.
Meanwhile, Butler had consistently high-scoring performances in winning two diving events in FAU's first 2011 meet. The sophomore, from Orangeburg, New York, earned top honors with 252.50 points from the judges on her three-meter dives, and scored 248.75 points on the one-meter board. She also posted two, top-five efforts in the FAU Invitational.
The competition continues to heat up for FAU's swimming teams in the final weeks of the season. The teams will challenge No. 4-ranked University of Florida on Saturday, January 15, in Gainesville.
