BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University, 1-0, will welcome Michigan State University, 1-0, to Ford Field this Saturday, September 11 at noon.
While the Owls will serve as the home team and return to Ford Field where they captured the 2008 Motor City Bowl, 24-21, the contest will mark the first time the Spartan football team has played in Detroit since 1944 and the first time at Ford Field.
Marketing, promotion and sponsorship efforts recently hit full-stride, and as expected, a surge in ticket sales, this week, has surpassed the 25,000 mark. Sponsors like the Detroit Tigers and Lions, PNC Bank, Quicken Loans, Pepsi, Fox 2 News and CBS Radio have assisted with this effort.
"We believe that the Michigan State faithful will make sure they have a strong presence and that they will fill Ford Field to cheer for their Spartans," said Craig Angelos, FAU's director of athletics. "As we continue our marketing and promotions blitz in Metro Detroit, we are confident that there will be a strong showing from the Spartan Nation to come watch their team challenge the Owls from Florida Atlantic."
Attached is a complete list of the marketing strategies utilized to promote this game. Should you have questions or if you would like to talk contact FAU Athletics Director Craig Angelos, call 561-706-6206.
