BOCA RATON, FL - Christina Wallinger had a season high 18 kills and was one of four Owls with double-digit kills, but the Florida Atlantic (10-15, 1-8 Sun Belt) volleyball team lost to UALR in five sets (25-18, 18-25, 20-25, 25-21, 8-15) on Sunday.
FAU trailed 7-4 early in the first when it went on a 15-6 run, aided by two kills and two blocks each from Georgia Robinson and Kristyna Dzmuranova to take a 19-13 lead. An Anne Vaughan kill gave the Owls the first set win.
The score was tied at six in the second set when it was the Trojans' turn to make a run. A 10-3 spurt made the score 16-9 lead. FAU never got closer than five points the rest of the set and tied the match at one set each.
In the third set, the score was tied at 10, but UALR (3-16, 1-8) managed to work their way out to a 23-15 lead. The Owls scored three points in a row, before the Trojans closed out the set 25-20. FAU trailed by the score of 13-7 in the fourth set, but was able to tie the score at 14. The set was tied again, this time at 19, when an Ashton Krajewski service ace and a UALR attack error gave the Owls a 21-19 lead. After an FAU attack error, the Owls were able to tie the match at two sets each helped by two Wallinger kills.
Daniele Souza Moura served the Trojans out to an 8-3 lead in the fifth set. FAU was unable to catch up and lost the set 15-8. Vaughan (13), Dzmuranova (12) and Robinson (12) joined Wallinger with double-digit kills. The Owls will continue their road trip next weekend, when they travel to Troy on Friday.
