GAME #3: Florida Atlantic University begins the first of a two-game stretch against teams from the Sunshine State on Saturday when the Owls face UCF at 5 p.m.
THE SERIES: UCF leads the series 20-6. Both teams met often when they were members of the Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC) and Atlantic Sun. However, this will be the first meeting between the two schools since February 2, 2005. UCF won that meeting 61-47 at FAU Arena. The last FAU win in the series came back on January 30, 2002 when FAU went on the road to the defeat the Knights 79-72.
OWLS VERSUS FLORIDA (DIVISION I): Since joining Division I in 1994-95, the Owls are 55-80 against teams from the Sunshine State.
FAU OWLS: Florida Atlantic is now 0-2 on the season after an 83-67 loss to Georgia Southern on Monday night at FAU Arena. The Owls couldn't overcome a hot shooting night from the Eagles, who hit 61 percent (26-45) of their shots from the field and 11 of 20 from beyond the arc. Freshman Breana Turner (New Orleans, LA/De La Salle HS) led the way in scoring for the Owls for the second night in a row, she scored 17 points on eight-of-21 shooting. Jessica Knurick (Commerce, MI/Walled Lake Western HS) added 10 points of her own and was a perfect two-for-two from three-point range. FAU did handle the ball reasonably well, only committing 14 turnovers while forcing 21 Eagle giveaways.
UCF: Central Florida opened up the regular season with an 86-59 win over Colorado on Sunday. Despite the loss, the Knights got a huge game out of Sophomore forward Emma Cannon, who led the way with 19 points and 17 rebounds. Cannon is the leading returning scorer and rebounder from last season, averaging 11.7 points per game and just under nine rebounds per contest. UCF also gets good scoring from their backcourt duo of Marshay White and D'Nay Daniels who averages 11.6 and 10.2 points a game respectively. The Golden Knights will play Florida A&M on Friday night in Orlando prior to their Saturday game with the Owls

G - 14 Andrea Taylor (5-8 Jr., Birmingham, AL) Started 11 of the last 14 games last year, was a perfect four-of-four from the foul line against Baylor F - 23 Erica Caldwell (6-0 Jr., Cleveland, OH) Averaged 18.1 points per game her sophomore year at Spartanburg Methodist College (SC). P - 42 Jessica Knurick (6-3 Jr., Commerce, MI) Scored 10 points and five rebounds against Georgia Southern
TURNER IMPRESSIVE IN OPENING WEEK: Of the five newcomers to compete for FAU in the first two games, Breana Turner stood out. Turner came off the bench late in the first half and got on a hot streak en route to scoring a team-high 14 points against the nationally-ranked Lady Bears. She followed that up with a 17-point effort against Georgia Southern in the home opener.
THANKSGIVING TOURNAMENT: For the second year in a row, Florida Atlantic will host a thanksgiving tournament at FAU Arena. The Owls will host Ohio Valley Conference opponent Tennessee Tech on Saturday, November 28 at 3 p.m. In the nightcap, no. 13 Texas faces Atlantic Coast Conference foe Georgia Tech at 5 p.m. The winners of the two games will face each other in the championship of the Thanksgiving Tournament at 3 p.m. the losers will proceed in the consolation match at 1 p.m.
FAU IN THE BAHAMAS: Later in the non-conference season, the Owls will travel to Nassau, Bahamas to participate in the Sunsplash Shootout. FAU will face Mercer University on December 18 at 4 p.m. Two days later the Owls play East Carolina University on December 20 at 4 p.m. The last time FAU played outside of the United States was back in 2000 when the Owls lost to Oral Roberts University and Arkansas State University in the "Fun in the Sun" Classic in Cancun, Mexico.
