Defense wins Spring Football Game

April 14, 2001

MIAMI, FL - Florida Atlantic University's first football game as well as 126 plays are now officially in the book. The defense shined for the second weekend coming away with a 39-32 victory in the modified scoring system, prior to the goal line work. The offense won the goal line workout 17-4.

The defense was highlighted by several key performances including Yulkeith Brown who grabbed one interception and forced a fumble.

Offensively, Garrett Jahn was 17-for-30 with 214 yards, including two touchdowns. Jared Allen, who split time with Jahn calling the signals, was 6-17 for 98 yards and was charged with interceptions.

Doug Parker and Dekolan James led the team on the ground. Parker had 19 carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns while James carried the ball 22 times for 147 yards.

"The offense was better, but we are still making decisions that would be suicide in a game," said Howard Schnellenberger. "Dekolan had a good game as did Parker. We also have several walk-ons that will contribute to our running game."

FAU will play its final scrimmage of the spring, 4 pm, Saturday, April 21 at the Tom Oxley Fields. It will be family day.
