FAU Track Team Heads to Penn Relays
April 22, 2008
BOCA RATON, FL - After taking some time off, the Florida Atlantic University track team will head north to participate in the Penn Relays from April 24-26 at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. The Penn Relays attract teams from all over the country to take part in one of the deepest talent pools in the nation. Head Track Coach Alex Smolka's squad will participate in the prestigious meet. "It's called the Penn Relays Carnival and that's what it is. There will be hundreds of colleges that have teams at the meet. It is a really exciting meet to be a part of," said Smolka.
The Owls have had a strong outdoor season in which several athletes have set personal and school records. Toyria Mattear has already posted two automatic qualifying times in the 400-meter hurdles, including a new school record. FAU also will work to have more athletes qualify for the NCAA Regional to be held in Tallahassee at the end of May.
