Track Competes at East Regional

The Florida Atlantic track team had three athletes participate the East Regional.

In the 400 meter hurdles, Toyria Mattear finished 12th in a school record 59.39 seconds, while Lindsay Glover finished 22nd in 1:01.20. Friederike Feil finished 12th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 10:38.21.

Owls Finish 7th at Sun Belt Outdoor Meet

The Florida Atlantic University track team finished 7th at the Sun Belt Outdoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend.The Owls finished 8th at last year's meet. Friederike Feil claimed the 3,000 meter steeplechase title in a time of 10:55.52. It was Feil's third individual title as an Owl, after winning both the mile and 3,000 meter steeplechase at last season's indoor meet. Feil finished 2nd in the 1,500 meter and fourth in the 5,000 meters.

Track Team Prepares for Sun Belt Outdoors

The Florida Atlantic University track team will head to Denton, Texas for the Sun Belt Outdoor Track and Field Championships from Friday, May 9 through Sunday, May 11The Owls will head to the meet, hosted by the University of North Texas, with the intention of improving last year's eighth place finish. At last year's meet, FAU tallied nine top-10 finishes and had the 4x400 meter relay team register a regional qualifying time.

Track Runs at Penn Relays

Friederike Feil ran a Sun Belt record 10:38.06 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the Penn Relays over the weekend.She joins Toyria Mattear as an automatic qualifier for the NCAA East Regional in Tallahassee, FL. Her time is one of the 10 best times in the region this year.This is the second year in a row that Feil has automatically qualified for NCAA Regional in the steeplechase. Her time of 10:49.93 last season was a then school record. Her qualifying time this season is an improvement of almost 12 seconds from last season's time. In the 400 meter hurdles, Lindsay Glover finished 14th in a time of 1:01.45.

FAU Track Wins Design Award

CSR Heavy Construction Inc., who designed and built the Florida Atlantic University Track Facility was recently given the 2008 Build Florida Award for Specialty Contractors.The $4.2 million facility, which opened in January 2007, was a successful collaborative effort between the administration of Florida Atlantic University and several different companies. The Owls hosted thier first track meet ever at the facility last March. The facility is also open to students and staff and has hosted the last two spring football games.

FAU Track Team Heads to Penn Relays

After taking some time off, the Florida Atlantic University track team will head north to participate in the Penn Relays from April 24-26 at Franklin Field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.The Penn Relays attract teams from all over the country to take part in one of the deepest talent pools in the nation. Head Track Coach Alex Smolka's squad will participate in the prestigious meet.

Track Team Has Good Weekend at Separate Events

The Florida Atlantic track team performed well at two meets over the weekend.At the Elite Invitational, Toni Jackson (2:18.13/6th) and Charlene Luxama (2:19.64/7th) gave FAU two top-10 finishers in the 800 meters. The Owls placed third in both the men's and women 3,000 meter steeplechase. Jordan Dopkins (10:54.69) and Jaymie Brooks (12:41.07) both ran well in their races. Taylor Reeves also placed third in the 3,000 meters in a time of 8:48.85.

Track Team Splits Up This Week

The Florida Atlantic University track team will participate in two separate meets this weekend.Head Coach Alex Smolka will take one group down to the University of Miami to participate in the Gatorade Invitational, while assistant coach Owen McGregor will take another group to Arizona State University to compete in the Sun Angel Classic.

The Florida Atlantic University track team had a notable weekend at the Florida Relays over the weekend.The sprint medley relay team of Angela Kerr-Smith, Krystal McCarty, Trishauna Clarke and Charlene Luxama set a school record, finishing eighth in 4:03.96, eclipsing the old mark, which was set at last year's Florida Relays.

Florida Atlantic University's track team will head to the Florida Relays on April 4 and 5 at Percy Beard Track at the University of Florida in Gainesville.The Owls are coming off of a good showing at the Hurricane Challenge, hosted by the University of Miami the weekend of March 28. Taylor Reeves set an FAU record in the 1,500 meters. Also, Angela Kerr-Smith (200 meters), Patricia Gumbs (800 meters) and Jaymie Brooks (3,000 meters) all set personal records at the meet.

Former Owl Wins at First Professional Meet

The Florida Atlantic track team performed well at the Hurricane Challenge over the weekend.Taylor Reeves set a new school record in the 1,500 meters, crossing the finish line in 4:04.96, good for second place. Angela Kerr-Smith set a personal record in the 200 meters, running a time of 24.87. In the 800 meters, Patricia Gumbs set a personal record of 2:14.04. Charlene Luxama and Toni Jackson also ran well in that event. Jaymie Brooks set a personal record of 11:48.87 in the 3,000 meters.

The Florida Atlantic track team had several members set personal records at the Hurricane Inviational over the weekend.The Owls got started on Friday night when both Taylor Reeves (15:43.90) and Stephen Dassin (16:24.29) set personal records in the 5,000 meters. Reeves also set a new personal record in the 1,500 meters (4:10.73) on Saturday. Kyle Butler set a school record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase in a time of 10:08.08.
