July 9, 2008

BOCA RATON, FL - Former Florida Atlantic University swimmer Ellie Weberg competed well at the 2008 USA Olympic Trials in Omaha, Nebraska.

The Minnesota Native was vying for one of two spots in the 200 meter breaststroke finals, hoping to represent the United States in the 2008 Beijing Olympics in August.

After successfully advancing through the quarter and semifinal rounds, Weberg was seeded 8th heading into the finals. Weberg was able to outperform that ranking with a 7th place finish and a time of 2:28.67.

Prior to the 200m finals, Weberg also competed in the 100m breaststroke quarter and semi final rounds. Weberg's semifinal time of 1:08.92 placed her 10th , only two spots and .07 seconds out of qualifying for the final round.

Weberg was a three-time participant in the NCAA Championships and picked up four All-America awards during her FAU career. She helped guide the Owls to back-to-back Sun Belt Conference Championships and was named the Sun Belt Conference Female Swimmer of the Year as well as the FAU Female Athlete of the Year in 2007.
